We seek a Junior or Graduate Mechanical Engineer to work on rotating machine aspects of turbochargers like the bearings, seals, housing etc.

You will be working under direction of a senior engineer through the lifestages of a Turbocharger project, from design through to the test validation.

Graduate Engineer Role:

This product focused position performs established technical tasks at the sub-system and/or component level for current and future products within a given business unit or corporate area. This involves work across many steps in the product life cycle. Because of the product centred nature of this position, you will be very often a central point of coordination and decision making between product line engineers, customer teams, systems engineers, purchasing, suppliers and manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities:
Investigates product problems, understands causal mechanisms, recommends appropriate action, owns problem resolution and documents results with guidance from more experienced team members.
Main focus will include working in business processes of Product Preceding Technology (PPT), Value Package Introduction (VPI) or Current Product Support (CPS) and executing technical processes such as Engineering Standard Work (ESW), iDFMEA, Failure Incident Review Group (FIRG) while using tools such as 7-step problem solving, design review checklist and other specialized tools required to support the processes and enable high quality decision making.
Obtains input from stakeholders such as technical managers, project leaders, other product and manufacturing engineers and supplier partners to deliver information and recommendations that lead to quality product decisions.
Applies academic knowledge and existing experience to take action and make decisions that progress projects forward without sacrificing project quality expectations. Examples of these decisions include day to day project details, analysis or test work instruction details, coordination across discipline areas that are necessary to make quality progress.
Owns problem resolution for moderately complex components, products, systems, subsystems or services with a greater degree of technical complexity and ambiguity over the entry level engineer level and with greater accountability to the project team.
Provides independent execution of established work processes and systems, while still developing technology or product knowledge; engages with the improvement of systems and processes.
Involves minimal direct management of people, but could involve the coordination and direction of work amongst technicians and/or temporary student employees.
Contributes effectively toward team goals, exhibits influence within a work group and continues to develop proficiency in the competency areas critical to success in the role.
The successful applicant will have responsibility for design and development of rotor bearing systems, so bearing experience would be an advantage but not essential.
The rotor bearing team`s responsibility includes radial bearing system, axial bearing system and impeller retention, meaning the role will suit an individual with an excellent understanding of mechanical engineering and physics allied with good practical and project management skills.
You may be trained to perform rotordynamic analysis to evaluate existing designs and develop new journal bearing systems, so good analytical skills are essential. Analysis and detailed interpretation are necessary to deliver the solutions, but the percentage of the applicant`s time and problem complexities can be tailored to the applicant`s experience.
The rotor bearing system role will expose you to several subject areas, where they will be expected to understand and apply the scientific principles and work with acknowledged experts in these areas. These subject areas include Acoustics/NVH, Tribology, Fluid Dynamics, Thermodynamics, Applied Mechanics and Materials, to overcome new and existing application and environmental challenges and even new bearing technology development, for example rolling element bearings.

Graduate Engineer Requirements:

College, university, or equivalent Bachelor`s degree in Engineering or other relevant technical disciplines is required.
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
General mechanical engineering experience is a must, previous automotive experience is not necessary.
Ideally you will have experience in rotating machinery of some type.
Good communication skills.
Be able to understand and follow instructions.
Be able to work independently.
Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred
