Embedded Systems Engineers: Reporting to the chief Engineer, you will join a highly focussed and passionate team leading the delivery of electrical / electronic engineering across the business.

This role is based within the Group EC team which has responsibility to ensure that all new Product programmes meet the required technical deliverables against required timing. The role requires technical knowledge, hands-on experience, project delivery process understanding, and the ability to work with diverse teams to ensure delivery.

Embedded Systems Engineer Role:

Translate the ¬Ďvoice of the customer` (internal and external) into a list of clear concise requirements and deliverables.
Selection of correct hardware platform(s) to deliver the technical solution, considering environmental and cost targets.
Thrive in a fast agile environment, developing prototype solutions to validate proof of concept ideas.
Creation of software architecture to satisfy delivery of the requirements.
Co-ordination of 3rd party support vendors with the creation of requirements and corresponding software architectures.
Ensuring robust and reliable ECU communication protocols are followed in line with industry best practice (SAE J1939, Ethernet).
Be able to read electronic schematic diagrams and their electrical wiring diagram counterpart.
Ensure design for manufacture is considered, both relating to build of the programming and parameter configuration of selected solution.
Have a keen interest in monitoring the health and status of the system, via on board diagnostic protocols or over the air communications.
Experience in the model-based software rapid prototyping and productionisation.
Work in line with industry standard development techniques i.e., V Model and software development processes
Consider the implications of writing / modelling software related to the delivery of functional safety solutions and security (cyber/digital resilience).
Sound record keeping techniques, of all designs, revisions, and related updates. 
Drive re-use of components and approaches.
Support of cause-and-effect analysis ¬Ė risk assessments, FMEA, 8D, Ishikawa/fishbone.

Embedded Systems Engineer Requirements:

Willing to understand how things work, or how they can be improved.
Strong desire to learn from working on differing system architectures and coding techniques.
Familiar with different requirements capturing tools i.e., IBM DOORS.
Knowledge of different CAN bus protocols i.e., CANOpen, J1939, ISO14229, ISO14230.
Working knowledge of Software development techniques (V Model and functional safety).
Awareness of security impact to achieve secure and resilient systems (hardware and software).
Experience in the completion of different VnV techniques White/Grey/Black box testing.
Knowledge / experience of hardware in the loop (HIL) testing ¬Ė functional test, fault insertion testing.
Knowledge / experience of system integration testing at a vehicle level ¬Ė does the solution power up, communicate, operate, and shut down as intended.
Comfortable working with various electronic lab tools i.e., Spectrum analyser, Oscilloscope, Signal Generators, DC power supplies.
Comfortable working with serial tools, Bluetooth and over the air diagnostics.
A good understanding of design verification processes (DVPSOR).
An ability to read and digest complex information relating to internal and external procedures and sign-off requirements.
Comfortable supporting and completing cause and effect analysis ¬Ė Risk Assessments, FMEA, 8D, Ishikawa/fishbone.

Essential:
Able to convert a list of desirables, into clear concise testable statements (functional requirements).
Confident in use of software modelling tools & software.
Sound base knowledge of electronic and software development.
Sound base knowledge of low-level firmware integration i.e., bootloader through to application layer and parameter configuration.
Familiar with CAN bus protocols.
Happy to use different types of lab equipment to monitor system behaviour i.e., CAN, frequencies, PWM and basic operation.
Awareness of functional safety and security impact, on software development.
Experience in the use of black box testing techniques.
Experience of validation and verification activities.
Experience taking electronic systems from concept through to delivery. 
Excellent communication and IT skills.

Desired EMBEDDED SYSTEMS ENGINEER:
3 years` experience within Tier 1 or OE sectors (on highway or off highway) within system engineering or software development.
Qualified to HNC/HND level in an electronic/software-based technology discipline or equivalent experience.
Validation and verification experience.

Desired SENIOR EMBEDDED SYSTEMS ENGINEER:
5 years` experience within Tier 1 or OE sectors (on highway or off highway) within system engineering or software development.
Qualified to HND/Degree level in an electronic/software-based technology discipline or equivalent experience.
Validation and verification co-ordination. 
Experience of Project delivery.
Understanding of and adherence to quality systems and processes. 
Understanding of FuSa and Cyber techniques (ISO13849 and ISO21434).
Co-ordination of tasks with the wider team.

Desired PRINCIPAL EMBEDDED SYSTEMS ENGINEER:
7 years` experience within Tier 1 or OE sectors (on highway or off highway) within system engineering or software development.
Qualified to Degree/Masters level in an electronic/software-based technology discipline or equivalent experience.
Able to co-ordinate / manage Project delivery incl. budget control.
Managing adherence to quality systems and processes. 
Able to create internal policies and procedures, and train others in adherence to quality systems and processes.
Experience in use of FuSa and Cyber software development techniques (ISO13849 and ISO21434).
Research and procure team training, plus software tools required.
