POWERTRAIN TECHNICIAN IN WEST MIDLANDS

Powertrain Technician required to deliver electrical, fuel cell and powertrain system technician support, to assemble & test fuel cell electric vehicle powertrain systems both on and offsite.  The role also includes the provision of electrical technician support for all engineering departments.

Powertrain Technician Role:

Desire to develop and support Electrical Engineering design department tasks.
Operation of the fuel cell powertrain and test cell both manually and using the automation system (Cadet).
Installations of fuel cell powertrain components into test cells and vehicles.
Accurate repeatable instrumentation fitment onto powertrains.
Utilise hardware and software for test purposes (e.g. analysers, indicating equipment etc.).
Fault finding on the fuel cell powertrain, test cell and vehicle.
Obtaining and owning data output from test cells.
Performing the initial analysis and interpretation of test results.
Day-to-day maintenance and improvement of test cells.
Support calibration of test cells and hardware to improve test data quality.
Cooperate in projects for improving test consistency and repeatability.
Design, develop, implement, install & repair electrical wiring, prototype electrical & electronic systems & instrumentation to facilitate R&D of powertrain systems in test cells and vehicles.
Development of engineering skills, drafting electrical drawings using VeSys, designing and sourcing wiring harnesses, developing DV activities and Safe Systems of work, with the guidance of respective Engineers.
Travel may be required but depends on project requirement.

Powertrain Technician Requirements:

An apprenticeship or HNC equivalent qualification in Automotive, Motor Vehicle or Electrical Engineering.
Experience of working with prototype fuel cell electric powertrain systems.
Experience of working with other HaV powertrains may be acceptable.
Experience of wiring harness assembly, modification and/or rectification.
Experience of wiring harness design would be advantageous.
Experience of fitting & removing instrumentation.
Experience in selecting sensors and data logging equipment would be advantageous.
Capability to make discrete prototype electronics (to supplement powertrain ECU`s) is strongly preferable.
Knowledge of current motor vehicle powertrain technology.
Computer literate including Microsoft Office.
Strong hands-on ability with can do attitude.
Good communication and persuasion skills.
