Design Engineer with electric harness design and routing experience required for long term contract with leading engine manufacturer.

ROLE PURPOSE AND OVERVIEW:

You will join the Electronics team who are responsible for electronic and electrical systems development across all engine and machine platforms. Based in Peterborough, the European Division works with all other European facilities to develop and apply advanced technology to the control of our highly integrated engines and machines. With unrivalled levels of vertical integration within the industry, their systems help to maximise the customer value and efficiency of end products, whilst minimising owning and operating costs.

The successful applicant for this position will be join the Compact Engine Systems team and will take responsibility for design activities on electrical harnesses and packaging of electrical components for our Client`s brand engine ranges.

Each project offers the opportunity to work on the harness design, supporting the development of engines designed to meet the latest emissions legislation, with world-class levels of quality and reliability. You will be part of a small, friendly team working together to deliver programmes that are critical to the long-term success of a respected, global company.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Design of harnesses and packaging of electrical components (sensors, ECM`s, actuators etc.)
Working directly with the engine architect to identify space claims
Working with suppliers to develop harnesses & associated brackets
Conducting FMEA on components and systems to identify and address design risks and determine validation needs.
Working with the validation team to plan and execute validation tests.
Conducting component and system design reviews to obtain ‘buy-in` from the business to selected components, designs and suppliers.
Keeping peers, team leader and management up to date with progress against planned activities.

Through this role, the successful candidate will have an excellent opportunity to take part in, and have significant responsibility for, the end-to-end design process for electrical systems. QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Essential:
Proficient use of Creo (Parametric Cabling and Creo 4 preferred) and Teamcenter
Strong technical background – either a technical degree in mechanical, electronic, electrical, control systems or automotive engineering - or equivalent relevant experience.
Prior experience in harness design, schematic creation and harness bracket design
Good understanding of component design and validation
Strong team player
Excellent communications skills

Desirable:
Experience of running and participating in FMEA
Experience of writing technical document / requirements / test plans
Knowledge of project planning activities
