As an experienced Development Supervisor, you will oversee the day-to-day activities of prototype builds and product development tasks. Working closely with engineers, technicians, and cross-functional teams, you will ensure that development activities are carried out safely, efficiently, and to a high standard of quality.
This role is hands-on, providing technical guidance, supervising workshop activities, and supporting the transition of vehicles from prototype through to production intent.
Development Supervisor Role:
Prototype Build Supervision
Supervise the assembly and modification of prototype vehicles and components. Ensure builds are carried out according to engineering specifications, schedules, and safety standards. Provide technical support and guidance to engineers and technicians during build activities.
Quality & Validation
Monitor and enforce quality standards during prototype builds. Support documentation of testing, validation, and build changes. Assist with vehicle evaluations and inspections before sign-off.
Health & Safety
Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations within the development workshop. Carry out risk assessments and promote safe working practices.
Team Coordination
Allocate daily tasks to technicians and monitor progress. Support coordination between Engineering, Manufacturing, and Testing teams. Report build progress, issues, and risks to the engineering team.
Communication & Collaboration
Act as a point of contact between workshop staff, engineers, and suppliers. Ensure clear and timely communication of build requirements and changes.
Leadership & Development
Supervise, motivate, and support development fitters. Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and innovation. Provide input into training and skill development for team members.
Development Supervisor Requirements:
Essential:
HNC/D or Degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent experience).
Experience in prototype build supervision within automotive, construction, or heavy machinery sectors.
Strong understanding of workshop practices, build processes, and engineering drawings.
Good understanding of hydraulic circuits, electrical harnesses, and engine troubleshooting.
Knowledge of Health & Safety standards and workshop compliance requirements.
Good communication and leadership skills with a hands-on approach.
Desirable:
Experience with electric or hybrid prototype vehicles.
Familiarity with low-volume manufacturing processes.
Exposure to testing, validation, and product sign-off processes.
